Still in concept design, this ambitious project intends to create a deep green, zero energy and zero operational carbon facility for an agricultural operation and residence that includes all-electric farm equipment, an all-electric home and charging for two electric vehicles. To be able to operate independent of the grid and avoid using fossil fuel as an energy source, IDeAs is studying a combination of photovoltaics, wind turbines, flywheel energy storage, hydrogen generation and a hydrogen fuel cell to support 24/7/365 operation. A key feature in developing this strategy is try to match renewable energy generation with site energy demands on a seasonal basis, a challenge that the State of California will face as it tries to reach its zero carbon goals by 2045.
