The 39,250 SF Auto Tech Center at Evergreen Community College design involves sensitivity to building orientation, prevailing winds, solar control and topography. Other strategies include daylighting as the main light source, resulting in significant power use reduction, indoor/outdoor air ventilation since garage doors will often be open. While working for a previous employer, IDeAs engineers led the electrical, lighting, daylighting and low voltage systems design. The facility trains students on maintaining both vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE) and also the latest state-of-the-art electric motors that are rapidly replacing ICE’s as the powertrain of choice in new vehicles. Evergreen Community College is partnering with local businesses that will eventually be hiring the students ensure that they have the appropriate training to work on the automotive technology of the future. This project achieved LEED Platinum Certification.
