In collaboration with Point Energy Innovations, IDeAs led the development of a microgrid design for the YouTube campus in San Bruno, California. The 6.5 acre campus also includes 2.8 acres of pollinator supportive planting areas and a 391,000 gallon rainwater harvesting system. Using sustainably sourced mass timber and other low-carbon materials reduced the carbon emissions by approximately 22,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. The project also introduced 475 native trees to the surrounding landscape.
Two photovoltaic arrays totalling 1.4MW are coupled with a 2.5 MW/5.3 MWH battery to form one of the largest privately owned PV/battery microgrids in California. Congratulations to Google and YouTube for having the foresight and leadership approve this groundbreaking system that takes another step towards developing zero carbon, regenerative buildings. The project is LEED Platinum Certified.
