Morgan Hill Aquatic Center

The Morgan Hill Aquatics Center is the first outdoor aquatics complex to receive LEED Silver Certification. IDeAs Consulting was responsible for the design of eletrical systems, lighting and lighting controls. The energy-efficient design includes optimized energy performance for HVAC, high performance lighting and lighting controls, daylight harvesting using dimming ballasts, and passive ventilation for summertime cooling of the locker and shower area. The most striking characteristic of the design is the creative use of “wind sails” to block the prevailing winds and reduce the amount of energy and water lost due to evaporation, resulting in an overall water savings of 57% and a pool heating cost reduction of 40%. In addition, 95% of the construction debris was recycled and diverted from landfill.
