Designed to create a modern, energy-efficient face to an aging campus, the new LeyVa Administration Building is open and inviting, inspired by the heritage of the Evergreen Community, the building references the high, open volumes of agricultural buildings, this project started with the simple question “How about Net-Zero?”.
The building is designed to be Net Zero Energy and Carbon Neutral with functions that create “buildings within a building” including individual offices and a teacher work area and lounge. IDeAs performed the electrical design to support elimination of energy costs and carbon emissions through the use of a daylighting design intended to eliminate the need for electric lighting during daylight hours in all occupied areas, high efficiency lighting and lighting controls, and a thin film photovoltaic system sized to offset 100% of the facility’s annual energy use. Other sustainable technologies incorporated into this project include a VRF heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, a CRRC rated cool roof, ultra high performing building envelope, and spectrally selective low-E glazing.
This project was the first Net-Zero Energy and Net-Zero Emissions public school building designed in California, projected to generate up to 108% of its energy needs and is 41% more energy-efficient than Title 24 requirements, maximizes daylighting and used new HVAC technology to reduce power demands.
