IDeAs collaborated with BAR Architects, Verdera Energy, Alter Engineering, and KPFF to developed concepts for an integrated, all-electric, high density, multifamily housing building concept design powered entirely by an on-site solar array. Our work included a concept electrical design for an net zero energy building featuring a high performance envelope; induction cooking in kitchens; heat pump radiant heating and cooling for the apartments; high performance central heat pump water heaters; heat recovery ventilators; heat recovery from waste water; car stacking and EV charging in a below grade parking garage; a roof top photovoltaic screen sized to generate 100% of the facility’s annual energy requirements; battery energy storage with microgrid islanding capabilities and an in-depth financial analysis that shows on-going financial returns instead of liabilities demonstrating the financial viability of the project.
